For quite awhile now I've been thinking of learning how to play the guitar. However, unlike my other thoughts of getting a motorbike or taking up photography, I have actually made a step towards realizing this dream and bought myself an electric guitar. It's a Peavey Raptor Plus EXP similar to this:
My friend, who can already play, tried to convince me to buy a more expensive guitar but the way I look at it why buy a $400 guitar just to find out for whatever reason I don't want to play it in six months? Not that I'm giving up before I start, but I am a realist and know myself. Besides, if I get really into it, I can always buy a better one and sell this one or give it to my nephew or whatever.
Anyways, I fiddle-fucked around with it for a couple hours last night but of course I really have no idea what I'm doing. It took me half an hour to get the thing tuned using the electronic tuner that also came with it, and even now I'm not 100% sure its perfect, but it sounds better than it did at first.
While searching for a method to actually teach myself (since I have no intentions of taking actual lessons) I did stumble across a cool website called Heartwood Guitar which has a lot of resources for the beginner. I particularly like the blog which is very informative, while at the same time being entertaining.
